Elf Ear Plastic Surgery

You have your tattoos, you have your nose rings, and then you have your elf ears. Ear pointing surgery, using a method that cuts the ear and resews it, is on the rise. The motivation being, ostensibly, that you'll resemble your favorite LOTR or Star Trek character.

When I first heard about "ear pointing surgery", I was just as disgusted and horrified as many of you are now. After all, this surgery costs a large amount of money($400-$500 USD), is completely irreversible, and has the potential to get infected or otherwise and destroy the ear completely.

The surgery involves cutting the outer part of the ear and sewing it back together into a point. There is a large amount of pain involved and patients must wear tape to hold their ear together for 2 weeks+ after the surgery

Then I started reading books with elves in them......

I confess to having thought "Hey! these would be cool. I would stand out, anyhow."

In my fantasy dreamworld, I might consider getting this done. but plastic surgery is plastic surgery, and I guess God made me with ol' round ears so I may as well stick with it. Plus, pain isn't my thing. Also, I might get mistaken for a (heaven forbid) trekkie!

*heehee* this reminds me of when (spoilers) Opal Koboi(Artemis Fowl), a pixie,  undergoes similar surgery to have her ears rounded.

What do you think?

PS. I read Maximum Read. In two hours. I couldn't put it down. That amazing. I can't wait for the next one. James Patterson is certainly a talented author.

  1. I used to tie my ears to be pointed like that. =P

The Maximum Ride series is amazing!! I'm in love and in awe, and you will be too, the more you read. :)

  2. I can't decide which is crazier, this or the guy at the water park who had his nipple pierced. O_O

I need to read Maximum Ride, they look really good.

  3. I have always wanted to be an elf. However, I would never ever do that to my ears. As you said: wouldn't want to be taken for a trekkie. *shivers*

Also, the Max Ride series is pretty good. I'm not a fan of James Patterson's writing though.

  4. LOL, I have a funny story to tell!

When my hair is a certain way (it happens, on its own), the tops of my ears will stick through. Even though it's just the top of my ear, it can give the illusion that I have pointed ears. I've been going around telling people that I'm an elf. Well, the last time my hair was doing that, my youngest sister started screaming happily, "Endor's a Vulcan!" (don't know if that's the correct spelling. :P)
    "A WHAT?!"
    "You know, from Star Trek."
    "NO WAY! I'm an ELF!"

So yeah. :P One reason not to get it done, besides the fact that I think it's silly.

  5. I would never do that to my ears. Even looking like a Hobbit would never make up for it.
I started reading Maximum Ride and couldn't get into it. I liked the Graphic Novel series better.

  6. I'd never do it but you have to admit it looks sorta kinda cool. Except for the Trekkie part. Yuck.
I went through the same thing with the Max books. Read all of them in 4 or 5 days. Seriously addicting huh? :)

  7. Wow. THat picture really disgusts me. I would never have surgury like that. But you know, I am thinking about getting some nice quality prosthetic elf ears, and then just wearing them whenever I feel like it...which might end up being all the time...I'll have to look into it more...

And yeah, being mistaken for a Trekkie would be awful!

three amazing--and relatively little known--psalms

So I'm reading Psalms in the Bible right now. Well, Psalms is one of the three places I read from. I'm reading the Bible all the way through and read two chapters from three places--the Old Testament, the middle of the Old Testament, and the New Testament--every day. I'm in Deuteronomy and Romans in the other sections, but in the middle I'm still right where I started from-Psalms. Cause Psalms is really really long. I was getting kind of tired of Psalms(which isn't really the right attitude to be reading the Bible in). But I realized there are some really breathtaking passages in Psalms, and I'm glad I read them. These are my three favorites: *Buck Forester on Flikr Psalm 65 This one is about God's spectacular creation. What mighty praise, O God,      belongs to you in Zion. We will fulfill our vows to you, 2       for you answer our prayers.      All of us must come to you. 3  Though we are overwhelmed by our sins,      you forgive them a

Ciel Phantomhive vs. Artemis Fowl

Don't laugh. XD The similarities between the two characters are so distinct and obvious that comparison is inevitable for anyone who's read/watched both series. I seriously thought when I first noticed Black Butler(more popularly referred to as Kuroshitsuji) that it was literally an anime adaption of Artemis Fowl.  Other people have read Artemis Fowl and thought "CIEL HAS A CLONE??!?" So I thought I'd outline some of the differences and analyze who would win. XD Similarities: Appearance:  This is the first similarity, and one of the most major, because if they didn't look so darn alike I don't think the comparison would have been as striking. The above picture of Artemis is a fanart, because there aren't really any good pictures of Artemis, and the manga style makes it more obvious. They are both from the British Isles and have black hair and blue eyes. Both of them lose/change/switch an eye resulting in two different colors.

I need book recommendations!

I heard this movie stunk. C'mon, I'm dying over here! In other, unrelated news, want to hear one of the most overrated book series I've ever read is? Alex Rider. I picked up Stormbreaker after legions of people going "READ ITZ AMARANTHINE TIS AMAZING". It was alright....I guess. I didn't...fall asleep or anything. But it was definitely not mind blowing. For starters, Alex is way underdeveloped as a character. He was a little funny and relate able but not on the same level as I was expecting. And he's a bit cliched in the fact that he's just generally smart and knows everything, without any explanation or emphasis. I guess you could say that he's only a genius when he needs to be, and it doesn't add any other levels to the story. Oh, and did I mention that he's well versed in martial arts too? Yeah. Ender could still kick his butt though. I guess it would be a good read for boys who don't read much. Definitely not YA lev
