Dance

Come to think about it, I never did a post about dance.

Hmm.

I dance. And I really, really love it. I started dancing one summer doing hip hop, jazz, lyrical, musical theater, and choreography. Then, I switched to just jazz and hip hop, but the jazz instructor told me to take ballet.  And now I take ballet too. See, I know from first hand experience how it is to fail at ballet-less jazz.

I dance here: http://pacificdance.net/
I have hip hop today. I have a substitute hip hop instructor, but she is doing a combo I really love(DJ Got Us Falling in Love.) However, there's this annoying kid in the class who makes it her mission to stand directly in front of me every. single. darn. time. And the sub is good, but she doesn't discipline the class at all. She's so....patient it frustrates me.

About dance:
Ballet: No matter what anybody tells you, you need to take this. No good dancer started without ballet. It's the basic, it teaches you balance and flexibility. And it's not that boring. I like it.

Myths about ballet:
~Beginning ballet is boring.
~ You get to wear these all the time

These are not ballet slippers. These are called pointe shoes, and you only wear them after you're really, really good at normal ballet. And you need to be at least 11.

Jazz:
This is completely different from ballet, but you still need this. It's harder than ballet. You get to be sassy and cool and un-graceful. This is fun once you get past Jazz I and IB.
Myths:
Jazz is super fun when you start and so much cooler than ballet:
It gets pretty boring once you've been going to Jazz I for a while and you have to do the same thing over and over again.

 Lyrical:
It's like the fun version of ballet and jazz.

What I don't like about ballet is it's really expensive. You have to wear a hair net, pink tights, pink slippers, and a black leotard. We spent $15 on just the tights!

I'm really digging thanksgiving break. I'm writing 4000 words a day! I'll be caught up in no time!

  1. Hey! My friend Maddie is 10 (11 in February) and she got her pointe shoes in May!

  2. Hmm. Well, maybe the rules differ in studios. The point(haha. Get it?) is that your feet have to be strong enough to be able to stand on your toes.

  3. Grrr, I hate those annoying people. I've been having trouble with my tour jetes that we do stepping instead of sashaying. I keep doing my arms wrong, and this one girls is like *cue annoying voice* You need to do your arms right! And you're fondu looks bad you need to fix it!!!
She's just stuck up because she's moving on to pointe while the rest of us are staying behind for another semester.

And to add to the different dance types:
Contemperary- i love it. Its kind of like broken ballet. Its not..."sassy" like jazz. Its more free movement with passion. Its great. :3

  4. I tried Pointe, but it totally killed my feet and by the start of the new year my feet were already too big for my shoes. I did pretty good for the time I got to do it though! I'm an avid dancer. I've been dancing since I was two, and I've taken, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Lyrical. I teach Ballet Tap and Jazz and I am taking Tap and Lyrical this year. In fact, I'm heading to Lyrical tonight.
I'm trying to write 3,000 tonight, so I can hit 40k before thanksgiving.
    Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!

  5. @Jedi Chick. That's great! Are you going to(or have you already)make a career out of dancing?

@Savannah~Ugh. Exactly. That's what I'm afraid Audrey's going to have to deal with. You would not believe how annoying and mean other dancers can be, particularly if you're an older beginner. Stick with it!

  6. Well i'm not a beginner. At all. >.> But I dont know if you maent that. o-o;
Anyway, I was sad when i heard my new dance studio didn't offer musical theater. D: I was originally gonna do tap too, but we had already filled up the free days, and the tap class I could take was on wendsdays and we have church that day. So no tap for me....D; Which sucks, cause I love tap.

  7. "you" as in Audrey. xD Audrey is (going to be) a beginner, right?

  8. I haven't really thought about a career right now, though dance is sure to look great on a collage record!! When I say teach, I really should have said "Assistant Teacher" another teacher, (who was my ballet teacher last year, and I teach a group of probably 13 or 14 little girls. Their ages range from 3-6 i think. They are really sweet and it's good practice for me too!!

  9. I, um, don't dance... I feel left out. LOL ;D I think if I were to ever start dancing, I'd want to do the ballroom dancing stuff. I've watched videos and it's amazing just how graceful they have to be.

  10. Ooooh! So glad to discover that all you cool people do ballet too!!! :D

I've been doing dance for...oh... this is my 5th year. I just got pointe shoes a couple months ago. they totally kill your feet, but I'm gonna try and dance as long as I can before my body gives out on me... which will probably be soon --ugh.

I'm sorry, I'm gonna make the rest of you jealous, but my ballet school is really really good. the girls are really supportive and respectful of each other (as a general rule), and the teachers are great. the school is part of the royal academy of dance, based over in england, so that kinda explains it...

oh PS your link to your ballet school isn't working.

  11. I love this post! I take ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and musical theatere. you are exactly right about ballet. it is expensive, and its not too boring. All good dancers need ballet, its the basic structure of all types of dance. My favorite types of dance are Hip hop and Musical theatere. I never have taken pointe though, they used to have it at my studio but they don't anymore. :( AND UGH i hate ppl like that! That always try and get in front of you! like GRR MOVE!! lol

Thanks so much for following and commenting on my blog! I'll probably do the NaNoWrimo thing next year! I'll also check out your tips! Thanks so much! :D

three amazing--and relatively little known--psalms

So I'm reading Psalms in the Bible right now. Well, Psalms is one of the three places I read from. I'm reading the Bible all the way through and read two chapters from three places--the Old Testament, the middle of the Old Testament, and the New Testament--every day. I'm in Deuteronomy and Romans in the other sections, but in the middle I'm still right where I started from-Psalms. Cause Psalms is really really long. I was getting kind of tired of Psalms(which isn't really the right attitude to be reading the Bible in). But I realized there are some really breathtaking passages in Psalms, and I'm glad I read them. These are my three favorites: *Buck Forester on Flikr Psalm 65 This one is about God's spectacular creation. What mighty praise, O God,      belongs to you in Zion. We will fulfill our vows to you, 2       for you answer our prayers.      All of us must come to you. 3  Though we are overwhel...

Howl's Moving Castle book analysis

“I feel ill. I'm going to bed, where I may die.” ― Howl, upon having a cold. I've decided to call them "book analysis" because they're not really reviews that tell you how much I liked the book, rather,  me taking the book apart and looking at different aspects of it for my own entertainment. Read on. Also, read Howl's Moving Castle. This is the original cover of Howl's Moving Castle and I have got to say it is the UGLIEST thing I have ever seen. I like the new one much better. Ahem. First of all, I should point out that Howl's Moving Castle is a children's book. However, I like to hold all books I read to the same standard, after all, they're written by adults. I had biased expectations of Howl's Moving Castle from the start, because I kept hearing from several sources how amazing, how fantastic, how hilarious and how romantic the book was, and hearing the perfectly gorgeous soundtrack by Joe Hizazi(somethin...

Ciel Phantomhive vs. Artemis Fowl

Don't laugh. XD The similarities between the two characters are so distinct and obvious that comparison is inevitable for anyone who's read/watched both series. I seriously thought when I first noticed Black Butler(more popularly referred to as Kuroshitsuji) that it was literally an anime adaption of Artemis Fowl.  Other people have read Artemis Fowl and thought "CIEL HAS A CLONE??!?" So I thought I'd outline some of the differences and analyze who would win. XD Similarities: Appearance:  This is the first similarity, and one of the most major, because if they didn't look so darn alike I don't think the comparison would have been as striking. The above picture of Artemis is a fanart, because there aren't really any good pictures of Artemis, and the manga style makes it more obvious. They are both from the British Isles and have black hair and blue eyes. Both of them lose/change/switch an eye resulting in two different colors. ...
